"What beauty, what virtuosity! Last Sunday, David Chivers offered an extraordinary concert in the arms room of Ancy-le-Franc Castle. A magic moment by the young English violinist, who was given carte blanche as by the tradition of Musicany concerts. With great sensitivity and talent, he interpreted Biber’s passacaglia in honour of the 300th anniversary of his death. Followed a work by Jean Martinon and then, a world première work by the English composer Nathan Williamson, Open the Doors. This was a piece written specially for David, by the young composer born in Cambridge, who recently received the prestigious Presser Music Award. The program ended with the 1st sonata by Eugène Ysaÿe, and the public, once again in good numbers, was highly pleased."

French music had a place of honour at this concert with beautiful sonatas by Fauré, Debussy and the great César Franck. A graduate of the Guildhall School of Music, David Chivers is a full artist with magnificently developed technical and musical qualities. His wonderful intonation is paired with far-reaching sonorities. He reminds one of the young Joshua Bell. He is obviously at ease with Fauré’s romantic musicality. Together with his chamber partner, his majestic interpretation of the Debussy sonata remains one of the strong moments of the evening. All the pictorial talents of Debussy were perfectly rendered by the two artists. Such is their symbiosis that it is hard to believe they are playing together for the first time.
